Good news campers…..Pete will be back for another summer at Huawni!

Pete will be one of our in-session directors for the summer of 2013. Pete is a fearless leader and takes his ability to do so to campus at East Texas Baptist University. Pete’s the captain of the ETBU soccer and baseball team and recently scored the winning goal to beat rival UT Tyler.

We recently sat down with Pete in an interview- here’s what Pete said:

TEA: What are you most excited about in the summer of 2013?

PF: I am most excited about being a director because of all the experiences i get go through. To know the impact I can have on a kid’s life is amazing enough as it is and as a director it allows me to get to know each and every child. It doesn’t get better than working with kids for an entire summer. So how can I not be excited to guide these kids and be a role model for some of them? What is really unique about this job is it allows me to find my inner kid again and I am surrounded by people who love to put smiles on children’s faces while putting others before themselves.

TEA: Tell me about one of your clutch goals this season on the ETBU soccer squad.

PF: Going into the Tyler game we knew we weren’t favored as they were ranked #9 in the nation pre-season. We knew there was nothing to lose and I have never seen a team play with so much heart and effort. We kept it scoreless the whole game and I had an opening to shoot from far out as I’m encouraged to do by my coaches. I happened to put a good strike on the ball and it had a late dip to it at the end to get past their goalie and it was one of the craziest feelings I have ever had as we won 1-0. That was the start to what was the best weekend of soccer in my career as I was able to score the game winning goal in double overtime against our rivals two days later.

TEA: What would you like to say to Camp right now?

PF: Today I want to tell camp that I can’t wait to be back in the bubble where we can act however we want and not be looked at weird! There are so many times that things remind me of camp and I want to mention it but no one around me has a clue what I’m talking about. As fun as last summer was, we are going to experience an even better summer this summer with what is in store! We are going to make so many more memories like that day it poured and all of camp went to flagpole hill to dance and mudslide! I can’t wait to see all your familiar faces and hang out even more this summer while we have so much fun!

TEA: Welcome back Pete!
