Do you ever wish you could ditch your schedule and do whatever you wanted for the day? Well we did just that today at Camp Huawni! This afternoon we had Connect, one of the most famous activities for kids, which lets cabins pick their own schedule and enjoy cabin time at their favorite activities. The Critter Pond was the place to be, with campers of all ages vying to be the critter king or queen! One of the best parts about Connect is that cabins get to choose their activities together and get to grow closer as a cabin doing something they all enjoy.

Campers love having the freedom to choose activities they have wanted to do more or hadn’t had a chance to do yet. Many campers were excited to head to the Critter Pond because they had recently conquered their fear of the Critter or Trolley and wanted a chance to go back and enjoy their new favorite activities! As a counselor there aren’t many experiences that top seeing a camper overcome a fear and participate in something that they didn’t think they could do. It’s summer fun at it’s finest.

Activities for kids like the Critter and Trolley are wonderful opportunities for campers to jump out of their comfort zone and try something they’ve never done before. Not only is it a rewarding experience for the counselors, the campers love it too! One of my campers, Hannah, went off the Trolley for the first time yesterday, and when she told me about her experience it was easy to see how thrilled and proud she was. The first thing she wanted to do this afternoon was race to the Trolley and give it a go again! The moments when you see a camper filled to the brim with enthusiasm and pride for their accomplishments are the moments that keep me coming back year after year to Huawni, because I know that I have a chance to be a part of those moments with so many campers here. Session 1 is almost over, but the summer is just beginning and I can’t wait to watch many more campers have experiences like Hannahs!
