Sing Song is a big deal at Camp. All of camp gathers either around a campfire or at the big pavilion by the pool to sing and dance to traditional songs like “Bobby McGee” and “You Are My Sunshine”. It wasn’t until last night’s camp party at Shreveport while singing “You Are My Sunshine” did we learn it’s origin.

One of our future camp moms, Lana, pointed out that “You Are My Sunshine” was written by former Louisiana governor Jimmie Davis. I did my homework and it turns out she’s right. According to Wikipedia, a version of the song was copyrighted in 1940 by Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell.

On another note, our first Camp Party of the season started off with a bang. Future camper Alex auditioned for Talent Show by singing an orignal song titled “Trust”, Caleb, Zoe and friends played a mean game of ninja, and campers got to unveil the 2013 camp highlight video.

This is the first time we’ve ever had a future camper volunteer to play guitar and sing at a Camp Party. We are so proud of you Alex!

We played one of our favorite summer camp games, ninja, at our Shreveport Camp Party.
