Today the kids were again surprised with Connect Day, where campers get to choose their activities all day long. This was a great break from all day Tribal Competition.
After supper was extended free time for kids to play out in the front yard and just relax. Director Pete Fitzsimmons got a big woofleball game started; it was the after-supper activity of the night.
Around 8:30pm kids lined up to be the first into Celebration, a theme night where we decorate the Dining Hall and put on a big carnival and dance for the campers. Tonight’s theme was Halloween and the counselors had some pretty spectacular costumes. I don’t have the pictures in yet, but I hope to share those soon. Celebration is a neat time because all of camp has bonded and kids really let their hair down. You’ll never see a fourteen-year-old boy dance silly by himself back home; but at Celebration it’s pretty common. At Huawni kids know that no one will judge them for being themselves. Tonight Paul K. and Mike L. both let loose with some dancing; I loved seeing that.
We’ll be headed to bed a little earlier tonight as we enjoy our final full day tomorrow. We’ll have Critter Pond Mixer (CPM) in the morning and Summer Tree tomorrow afternoon. Until then, it’s lights out!
