Day one at Camp Huawni is in the books! Campers woke up this morning a bit early so excited of the day ahead. Don’t worry, after today’s action packed schedule, I have a feeling campers will stay in bed tomorrow morning until they hear the first note of music from Flagpole Hill.

Campers enjoyed the tradition of flag raising this morning. We pledged the flag, Pine Top sang the Birdie Song, and yes, they were soaked once again with water by the boy counselors.

Pete and Melanie hosted inspection and campers did a great job of not only cleaning, but also wooing their directors for extra points. Yes…your kiddos are learning how to take responsibility by making their bed, sweeping the cabin floors, and organizing their trunks!

Campers enjoyed an actioned packed schedule, participating in the Huawni Archery Program, Critter, Trolley (zip line), slide, Canoe Program, horseshoes and washers, and arts and crafts.

At lunch, Keshawn G. received Camper of the Day honors for his courage in both dancing and leading his cabin well.

This evening we took cabin pictures before heading off to the iPond for some good, old fashioned cane pole fishing. A handful of campers caught their very first fish. Maybe the most memorable catch of the night was from McKenzie B.; she was elated beyond imagination. Next, a handful of counselors battled it out in a chubby bunny contest. We finished the night with Sing Song by the camp fire, as I led camp in You Are My Sunshine, When I First Came to this Land, Salty Dog, Wagon Wheel, Shelby County Breeze, Now & Forever, and the Camp Song. The moon was sitting low in the sky and the stars where just beginning to shine as we headed back to main campus.

Campers got back for cabin time tonight, cleaned up, and even got going on their bucket lists (aka things they want to do as a cabin before leaving camp). Grace C. also got to celebrate her birthday Huawni style in her cabin. Birthdays in the cabin are always memorable!

Parents, I’m currently uploading the rest of photos tonight that you’ll hopefully be able to see in your CampInTouch account shortly. Sorry for the delayed posts; we were scheduled to have our T1 line in March 15th…we’re still waiting. Thankfully we’ll have our satellite internet in tomorrow morning, so this should solve our problem. Thank you for your patience!
