So this was my view when I walked outside this evening after supper. Kids were playing red rover, volleyball, and a pick up soccer game with their counselors and life at Camp Huawni was good.
I love after supper time; it’s one part of our day here at Huawni where there’s no structure. It’s a special time where a lot of relationship happens. One of our core beliefs at Camp is that “life is meaningful relationships”. Think about how boring and mundane life would be all alone! We were made for relationships, and after supper time is an excellent environment for that to happen.
Tonight at dinner, we had our camper orientation where we got to share guidelines with the campers (off limit areas, etc.). This kids were out of control excited, and that got me fired up. Sarah Jane P. volunteered to bless the food- pretty impressive for a first-time camper in front of 135 peers!
We’re about to kick off Opening Night Show in just a bit; it’s a theatrical production put on by your children’s counselors. This year it’s the Wizard of Oz with a twist. After that, it will be showers and then cabin time. During cabin time, counselors lay out the ground rules for the cabin, set expectations, and create their “bucket lists”. The bucket list is, of course, things they want to do at camp as a cabin before they go home. The campers really get creative when it comes to bucket lists!
After that, it’s off to bed! We’re looking forward to a great day tomorrow…the first day of Camp is always special.
