We left campus around 2:30pm today and trekked about three quarters of a mile to one of my favorite spots- the Carving Trees. This a little hideaway tucked back up against the Pinson Creek. There’s huge beech trees scattered along the creek, some with names carved from the 1960’s. This creek area is beautiful; there’s a huge, cavern-like wall that scales up the south side of the creek. It’s kind of like the creek featured in Swiss Family Robinson, less the waterfalls.

Matt Gillham and I took a group of about 20 kids on an excursion. Here’s a sneak peak of what it looks like hiking down the Pinson.

At 3:30pm we sliced open our first ripe watermelon. In fact, we ice down each watermelon in it’s own individual cooler. When that first bite hits your lips, it’s oh so delicious. A majority of camp left the Carving Trees covered in mud with watermelon residue just about everywhere. We hiked back to camp and hosed off the kiddos; it was a special day today.
