This morning at Flag Raising we surprised the kids with Playday!

For you first time camp parents, Playday is a day where we surprise the kids by throwing them into the pool. Don’t worry….we have strict safety guidelines (i.e. lifeguards on duty and other safety precautions). For the rest of the day, Girls Camp does Playday and Boys Camp does Huawni Uprising, a big capture the flag game in the woods.

At breakfast girl campers were selected onto one of four Playday teams. Meanwhile, Boys Camp was divided up into two Huawni Uprising teams. Huawni Uprising, like Playday, is a long-standing tradition in Boys Camp. Uprising is a huge capture the flag game that happens in the woods. Boy campers put on camo paint and get a chance to bring out their inner warrior/boy side by trying to capture the opposing team’s flag, which is usually hidden in and amongst the trees and Pinson Creek.

As soon as we played the song “Chicken Train”, an old 70’s track by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, kids scattered because they instantly knew that they might be dipped into the pool by their counselors.

Girls Camp enjoyed a wonderful day of Playday this morning. They competed in the Egg Toss, Pie in the Eye, Minnow Chase, and Ice Water on the Counselors’ Back.

Pie in the Eye is a Playday favorite!

The oldest boy campers got the last bit of ice water in the trough!

Boys Camp gathered around the archery area and duked it out. The Green Hornets battled the Black Ops in a fierce battle. Midway through the action we broke out some ice cold watermelon. I enjoyed several pieces myself, meaning it will be a light lunch day!

Parker launches off a tree trying to tag an opponent.

Watermelon was an ice cold treat today!

This afternoon we’ll go back to our regular activities. Tonight is Talent Show, where we get to encourage the kids as if they were rockstars. We can’t wait to see all the talent!
