If there’s one thing I love about our year-round Camp Huawni team, it’s that they are learners. This past week we traveled up to CampMinder Camp (CampMinder is our technology partner) in Colorado to learn more about how our team can better serve our Camp Huawni families.

One of my favorite sessions was led by summer camp enthusiast Steve Baskin, who spoke on how summer camp is uniquely positioned as a primary youth development tool for parents. Steve argued that more and more evidence is surfacing suggesting that, although kids are super busy with activities, those activities are not necessarily bringing a lasting advantage. In many cases, parents are choosing the same activities for their children as their friends are and trying to do so just 3% better.

One question that Steve asked really stopped me in my tracks. He said, “What’s your vision for your child?” This question really stuck with me. As an expecting, soon-to-be parent, I thought, “This is a great question!” Therefore, as a parent, I’d like to know what you think.

  • If someone stopped you today at the grocery store, and asked, “What’s your vision for your child?”, what would you say?
  • How much time have you thought about this?
  • If you haven’t thought about it, what thoughts do you have?
  • How would you like to be more intentional with creating more meaningful margin for your child?
