Yesterday was a day of rest, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. My apologies for not posting yesterday; it was a day of rest for me also, and I got to enjoy a little more time out and about than usual.

We started yesterday off by sleeping in until 9am; the kids, especially the older ones, loved that. We had our traditional cinnamon role breakfast (with fruit and yogurt), and then we got cleaned up a bit before heading to the Little Red Church. The service was led by our counselors and Mr. Mike, who led us in “Father I Adore You”. The Little Red Church is maybe one of the most peaceful spots on earth, and yesterday was no different. The younger kids had their own gathering outside under the big oak trees. My brother Austin Adams shared the message yesterday and spoke on “5 Things That Will Ruin Your Life As A Teenager”. The one thing that stuck most with me was #1, which was “think that life’s all about you.” Isn’t it funny how selfish we are? That point stuck with me big time.

Sunday afternoons are the best, mostly because it’s Choice, meaning each camper can choose their activity. We opened up all the water activities, along with a movie showing, and my favorite, Sunday Hike! We hiked the long way around to Joe Shield’s barn (from the 1800’s) and ate ice-cold watermelon. Yesterday was a treat because former director Rob Payne joined us; he even did the honors of cutting watermelon! Mr. Mike led the hike and showed all the campers various things in nature. We looked at special plants, a sassafras tree, an old oak tree that had fallen (we counted the years by looking at the rings), blackberries, and a whole lot more. It’s so amazing how much kids love being in nature; they might have well been at some big nature museum….they were captivated by their surroundings.

Last night we had Round 1 of the Wiffleball World Series. Caddo won game #1 2-0 and Tejas won game #2 4-3 in extra innings. This was the game I umpired, and man was it a close game. Austin H., Bobby C., Cooper H., and Baird H. all pitched marvelous games and played stellar defense. The game broke open in the 5th when Hollin L. started the inning off with a base hit, followed up by a line drive base hit off the bat of Tate B.. Then, tied at 3 in the 8th inning, Baird H. got a walk-off, game winning single. Both Tejas and Caddo will play two more games tomorrow night for the championship.

After wiffleball we gathered on the front lawn for the infamous Waterballoon/Shaving Creme Fight. Thankfully we had no injuries, and what transpired was pure fun. The campers loved last night; even our youngest campers really got into it.

Today we’re back to regular activities; campers are still competing for individual tribal competition. After supper tonight we have our camper triathlon followed by Miss Huawni. A lot is going on, and the second week of Camp is truly underway. I hope to post soon later today.

Cheers!

Grace warms up Tejas for a victory.

Taylor loved her watermelon and may or may not have been the instigator of an ice-water fight.

Towards the end of the hike, we found Joe Shield’s barn and ice-cold watermelon. We’re almost there!
