Congratulations to both Caddo and Tejas for a marvelous Wiffleball World Series (WWS) finale last night. In Game #3, Tejas beat Caddo 6-1, mostly due to the stellar pitching by Miss Milee G.. Also, shout out to Keaton W. for making a triple play….a triple play folks! In Game #4, Caddo took an early 3-0 lead in the 2nd Inning. Then, in the 5th, Jack B. hit a three-run home run to tie it up at 3-3. Then, during the 8th, Caddo drew a walk and won the game! Both teams ended up with two wins, so the winner would be decided by runs. Therefore, Tejas took WWS Session 2 because they totaled more runs than Caddo.
After WWS we hosted a Sing Song at the pool. We played and sang You Are My Sunshine, Wagon Wheel, Salty Dog, Red House, Preacher & The Bear, North Country Fair, Now & Forever, and the Camp Song.
Just when you thought Camp was going to bed last night, you realized that it was alive and well. We had many of our campers enjoy cabins traditions last night. These are traditions are unique to each cabin, and each year you move up to the next cabin you get to enjoy that cabin tradition. We had a movie watching night at the pool, along with various other cabin traditions. It was quite a scene here last night at 9:30pm.
Today we’re gearing up for all day Tribal Competition, which means we’ll compete in 8 team events. Today is make it or break it for team points, and we’ll compete in Soccer Kick around the Pool, Hot Shot, OC Team Run, Inner Tube Relay, Huawni Derby, Run for the Roses, Archery Tournament, and Tug O War. By the end of the day, your children will likely be able to rest pretty easily…it’s a big day. Here’s the neat thing about today (and what we discussed with all of staff this morning in staff meeting)— it’s all about building kids up. Competition today will afford a lot of opportunities. When kids fail, lose a match, get discouraged, etc., counselors will have multiple opportunities to build kids up and teach them life lessons. When I think back on my counselors and directions at Huawni…this is one thing I remember distinctly. We’ll try to post results today via social media on Tribal Competition.
And finally, I’d like to invite all of our alumni parents out to Initiation this coming Friday at 6:30pm if your child is being initiated into the Huawni Tribe (i.e. it’s their first year). If interested, call our main line and RSVP with Ashley Hamilton.
I really appreciate all your comments on the blog this week. It’s encouraging and super helpful for me.
My question for today is, in your mind, how does camp play a role for you as a parent in raising your child up?
