Saturday at Camp
Alot has happened in the past 36 hours here at Camp. My apologies for just now posting.
For the 4th of July, our hamburger cookout on Flagpole was just about perfect. The weather was perfect (it got down to 64 degrees on Friday night), and campers enjoyed the evening playing frisbee, throwing the football, and just hanging out with their friends.
Later on Friday night we had our first team event for Tribal Competition, soccer finals. Both Caddo and Tejas fielded two teams, with each team consisting of an older and younger squad. In game 1, Tejas beat Caddo 3-1. In game 2, it ended in a 0-0 tie. Jack M., Grace T., and Lauren H. all scored for the Tejas. Since Tejas went 1-0-1, they took the team points for Soccer.
After soccer we all climbed back up on Flagpole Hill for the TNT Fireworks Show. It lasted about 20 minutes and it was spectacular. As the show began, we played patriotic music over the PA system. I was impressed with our fireworks crew, which included Jessica, Gavin, Patton, and Caleb. They did a splendid job, and we all gave them a huge round of applause at the end of the show.
On Saturday, campers competed in individual competition. Each activity group competed for points for their team. Each camper who places in the top 3 gets a ribbon and points for their team.Those activities include long and short swim, mountain bikes, Obstacle Course (OC), hot shot, horseshoes, and archery.
Then, last night, we hosted the famous Cookout, Storytelling, Truckride, Wild Woman Hunt, and Sing Song. This has traditionally been the schedule on Saturday night, and it’s one campers look forward to. Mr. Mike told the story of the Blue Wolf, Joe Shields, and the Wild Woman. Then we hopped on the trailers and went looking for the Wild Woman. We ended last night with a sing song under the stars on the pool deck. The kids were pretty worn out after a full day yesterday, so we let the younger cabins go to bed a little earlier as we released them from Sing Song about half-way through.
This morning we got to sleep in a bit and then we’ll be heading to the Little Red Church. This is one of my favorite mornings; it’s super peaceful and restful…a time to reflect on the main thing in life.
This afternoon we’ll have choice and, my favorite, the Sunday Hike. Looks like we’ll be trekking out to Turtle Rock.
