There’s only 106 days until Camp, and we’re steadily preparing for the best summer yet. And yes, sleepaway camp just got a lot better at Camp Huawni. Why? Here’s a quick update on what we’re up to.
1. New Soccer Goals
Kyle fields officially has a new soccer goals! These goals are regulation size with new nets. Soccer finals is sure to get a little lift because of this new wrinkle.
2. Hot Water in Girls Camp
Just a few weeks ago we installed 3 tankless water heaters in Girls Camp, and we doubled hot water capacity in Boys Camp. This was a big piece of feedback we received from our campers last summer, and we’re happy to report that our campers will have plenty of hot water all summer long.
3. Volleyball Court Update
It’s definitely been a wet winter here in East Texas, but we’re nearing the completion of our new and improved volleyball court. Reed Grant, our campus foreman, is finishing up bolstering the west wall and installing a french drain system. Once this is done, we’ll stain the cedar planks and drop several loads of beach sand in it. With new LED lightening, I’m guessing the volleyball courts (yes…courts plural) will be a big attraction.
4. High Ropes Course Update
The high ropes course project is fast underway. We’ll be clearing a strip of timber soon to make way for the course. The Huawni Alumni raised a whopping $18,511 for camperships, which is going to be matched in spending by Camp to build the new Ropes Course. Thank you alumni for investing back into Camp and helping bring back the ropes course!
What are you most looking forward to this summer?
