Session 3 is underway and we would like to officially welcome our Session 3 Families! We hope you enjoyed our new check in process. From talking to many of our parents, Opening Day was relatively easy and felt like coming home.

One of our camp moms shared that they had just gotten back from Disney World right before coming to camp. Today her daughter said, “Mom, camp really is better than Disney World.” What a great compliment. It is encouraging to hear how kids really do love the simple fun and relationships that happen here in the piney woods. The simple fun has already began to unwind as we enjoyed Ms. Ada’s famous, famous, MOST FAMOUS fried chicken for supper, free time, and the Opening Night Show.

I am looking forward to seeing our Session 3 kids blossom over the next two weeks. Thank you for sharing them with us!

1979 Ford Debut

We believe that tradition brings consistency in an inconsistent world. Traditions are something our campers love, and today we got to bring back a little tradition in the form of our 1979 Ford F-100. This new Ford is a tribute to the old Green Machine, which was the same make and model as our new one. With a cream tone and brown trim, the Ford was back in business today delivering trunks to cabins. He was right at home. Especially for those of us here before 1985, it was a beautiful site!

The Green Machine is back..well sort of. Today our new 1979 Ford F-100 was back in the Opening Day lineup.

Homesickness

For many of you, it was your first time to drop your child off at sleepaway camp. This can understandably be a very nerve racking and emotional event. As hard as it is, we believe that homesickness is great opportunity for growth. Why is this so? I encourage you to read these two blogs I’ve written based upon the book Homesick & Happy by Michael Thompson.

Parent Book Club

One of the biggest benefits to camp for your campers is unplugging from the busyness of life and connecting with mother nature. This summer for our Huawni Parent Book Club I will be blogging on the the book Last Child in the Woods. This book has great research about the benefits to our kids being in nature. To get a free copy of the book, go here and reply at the bottom of the blog. I look forward to learning together.

I hope you enjoy the blog this session…we will keep you posted!
