Our first full day of camp is nearly complete, and the session has really started off very smoothly. Last night campers gathered in the Dining Hall for the famous, famous, MOST FAMOUS Opening Night Show. I love this picture above of Ruth…it says a lot about what ONS is all about— namely, goofy skits, lots of laughter, and gross stuff performed by counselors on stage.

This morning campers enjoyed their first flag raising of the session. Pine Top was late, which afforded Berry Patch West the perfect opportunity to sing the Birdie Song. Unfortunately they did not get the memo and missed their opportunity as Pine Top rallied to sing the song just in time. Today was filled with activities (archery, OC, swim, critter, sand volleyball, trolley, mountain bikes, slide, arts and crafts, swim, high ropes, field games and kayaking/paddle boarding/canoeing on Huawni Pond).

My favorite part of the day was checking in with campers on how Day 1 was going. I had a chance to check in with our Sun Up and Sun Down campers at high ropes and here’s what they had to say.

My first day brought back a lot of memories.

It’s great to be back home.

I felt revived.

I met a lot of new people.

I felt refreshed and good to be back.

My first day was super fun but also tiring.

I felt very happy to be back here.

It was really fun and I felt really happy to be united with all my friends.

My first day was just amazing.

I was really happy to be back.

It was really nice meeting all my friends and counselors.

Running up to see friends..the first time in a year is what makes the first day of camp good.

I ate three pieces of fried chicken and it took a long time to fall asleep.

It was very encouraging to be reminded of how much these campers valued their camp friendships. We really do believe here at Huawni that life is meaningful relationships_. That was what these girls were describing. It is so neat to see this happen in real camp time.

Tonight we have just launched the first Capture the Flag game. More to come on that tomorrow.

Homesick Report

I am happy to say that we have very few homesick campers thus far. We will keep tabs on this but it’s pleasantly strange….but a good thing. Campers are soaking up day one here!

Erin & Sarah do a fish rap (they literally made up a silly rap about fish).
