Camp is in full swing! Here’s a recap of our activities last night. Campers gathered on the Front Lawn to participate in a Huawni Capture the Flag match, which included crazily clad counselors and a lot of dancing. We then marched into the Dining Hall as our Huawni Counselors hosted the famous, famous, MOST FAMOUS Opening Night Show. I can tell you that all of our campers were fully engaged and laughing (a whole lot) as our counselors used their theatrical gifts to make our campers’ first night a great one.
This morning I had the opportunity to run on over to Huawni Pond as our youngest boy campers were having fun canoeing, paddle boarding, and kayaking. One thing we love about Huawni pond is that there’s so much open water and there’s usually a cool breeze blowing. We are so grateful for our new waterfront area!
As is the norm, we have a few homesick campers. Opening Night Show was as huge turning point for one child in particular. It is really important to get kids engaged and in the flow of camp as quickly as possible. Many time this is the boost kids needs to kick homesickness. This morning at staff meeting we got to check in with our cabin and senior counselors to see how each camper was doing. I checked in personally this morning with our boy homesick campers and they were doing great. We are keeping tabs on each kiddo, and rest assured your children are in good hands. Considering Session 1 is a bit younger than most sessions, I’m pleasantly surprised at how few cases of homesickness we have thus far. Again, homesickness is a great opportunity for growth. If you haven’t already, read my homesick and happy blogs (links are on yesterday’s blog post).
We should be uploading our first batch of pictures on your CampInTouch accounts soon, so please be checking your account today. This is a great way to see what’s happening at Camp.
Today is a full day of activities, and then tonight we will be partaking in one of our most tradition rich activities, Fishing & Sing Song. We will keep you posted…we are loving our Session 1 campers!
