Many things we do at camp are goofy, relaxed, and silly fun. The Huawni Triathlon is a break from that as campers and staff get an opportunity to push themselves and their limits, physically and mentally. Again, I am so proud of each of our campers who gave it a go in the Huawni Triathlon. Before I announce the times, I want to brag on all our campers who cheered on their friends. Their names are not mentioned here, but many of your kiddos opted not to participate but instead spur on their buddies.

Yesterday was extra fun for me because I got to jump in and participate in the last heat. I think it’s been maybe 3+ years since I’ve participated in the triathlon. The highlight of my run was not finishing 3rd (although for this 37-year-old I was pleasantly surprised), but rather what happened during the run leg of the event. As I entered the soccer field, two familiar faces joined me to run the last leg with me. It was Sam and Sarah Jane. They were encouraging me to finish strong. I was overwhelmed with gratitude for these two and how they cared for this old man, thinking about me above themselves. This happened to many of our participants, not just myself. After finishing the race, I walked back with Sam and we got to share about life and really check in on a heart level. It was the highlight of my day and I will never forget that conversation.
