Our first full day of camp is nearly in the books and we are rocking and rolling here at Camp Huawni.

Last night campers settled into the session as our staff put on the famous, famous, MOST FAMOUS Opening Night Show (ONS). A mixture of silly skits and audience participation games were the perfect fit to get our campers into the flow of week one. Afterwards, counselors hosted their first cabin time, which included counselors communicating cabin guidelines along with the creation of the infamous cabin bucket lists.

Opening Night Show makes it easy for campers to sit back, relax, and laugh!

More smiles at ONS!

Huawni Staff put on a motorcycle skit.

The Tradition of the Bucket List started several years ago. We originally started it as a way to reward campers for obeying their counselors and following the our camp guidelines. We also wanted kids to dream big so that they continually experience unique and new things that they can look forward to throughout the session. Bucket Lists have now taken a life of their own, and campers look forward to the first night for this reason. Last night both Boys and Girls Camp partook in this Huawni Tradition!

Monday

Today was full of activities as our Session 4 Campers got to dive into six daily activities. High ropes, Critter, slide, mountain bikes, paddle boarding, archery, swim, arts and crafts, sand volleyball, and kayaking/paddle boarding on Huawni Pond were all on today’s activity schedule.

I had a few opportunities to check in with our campers and I was encouraged to hear what they were experiencing on day 1 of camp. Here’s so quotes from our campers!

It was the first summer where I wasn’t shy on the first day.

It feels like family.

The people here are so nice.

Tonight campers gathered on the Front Yard to play a family-sized game of Capture the Flag. As usual, counselors dressed up in goofy costumes as CTF slowly turned into one big dance party. We wrapped up today with a Sing Song by the pool. You can listen to our recording of tonight’s Sing Song here.

Be Sure & Look at Pictures!

I wanted to give a friendly reminder to be sure and log into your CampInTouch account and look at all the pictures we post throughout the day. We try and get every camper every day. If you need help or have questions, please email us or call our main line for help! Pictures really do give you a better idea of what all is happening here at Camp.

Homesick Update

We have a few campers right now who are experiencing homesickness. It’s nothing out of the ordinary. If this is your child, or if you are child sick yourself, I urge you to read our Homesick & Happy blogs. You can find the links on yesterday’s blog post.

Tell us what you are experiencing thus far as a parent from home? Reply below where it says “What are you gonna say?”
