Sunday at Camp Huawni is maybe my favorite day of Camp. Campers and Staff slept in as we ate a late breakfast cooked by Ms. Ada. Then we all headed over for the Little Red Church Service. There’s a lot of things about the little Red Church that don’t change. We sang He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands as cabins stood up one at a time as their cabin was called. Next we sang Father I Adore You a cappella. The message this Sunday for older kids was about labeling. What labels do people put on you and are they true or not? Older campers got to discuss where their true value rests— going from getting their value from other people to getting their true value from God and His unconditional, never ending, never giving up love. As usual, this service was so very peaceful. You could feel the inner peace and God in this place. The younger campers discussed God’s unconditional and how they experience knowing their true significance (i.e. one-of-a-kind uniqueness) and purpose (i.e. their calling in life). We finished our time together with a few more worship songs and then ended church with a time of silence. It was a restful time!

Next we munched down on Ms. Ada’s Sunday BBQ Sandwiches and ice-cream. Those have been a hit for years and it’s been a fun tradition to have this meal for a long, long time. Sunday afternoon brought choice, as campers picked their favorite activity. The ropes course and water activities were open. We also had our famous, famous, MOST FAMOUS, Sunday Hike. Yesterday we headed over to Turtle Rock. Turtle Rock is a neat little spot carved out of the Pinson Creek that has rock that appears to look like a giant turtle. It’s a great swimming hole and campers love taking the Turtle Rock plunge into the cool creek water. The location is also really near the two Indian Mounds on our property.

Yesterday I also had the pleasure of getting to host alumnus Jeff Miley and his wife Kerri. Jeff actually found the book that verifies that the Huawni Indians were actually a tribe here in East Texas. For you history and Huawni buffs…here’s the page!

This is an exert form the Texas Indian Papers, 1825-1843 that speaks of the Huawni Indians.

Wiffleball World Series Update

Last evening Caddo and Tejas squared off once again for the second team sport event— the Wiffleball World Series (WWS). In Game One, Tejas edged out Caddo by the score of 2-1. Caddo actually led the entire game as Eli P. recorded 10 strikeouts. In the bottom of the last inning, Tejas got one run in to tie it 1-1. In the bottom of the 8th, Marcus C. got a game winning single! In Game Two, it was a 0-0 tie as Caddo and Tejas battled it out. In the bottom of the 10th inning, Tejas got the game winning hit. To see how this went down, check out our Instagram account @camphuawni. Tejas won 1-0 as they took a commanding 2 game lead. Both teams will square off again in Games 3 & 4 tomorrow afternoon.

Caddo had their pom poms out for WWS round 1!

Caddo cheers as they scored their first run on the Front Lawn.

Tejas enjoyed two victories last night and were happy, happy, happy!

Last night our guest umpire was LSU Legend Dr. Eddie Furniss. Eddie made his WWS debut as home plate umpire.

Waterballoon Fight!

A motto here for years is where a better youth arises and the fun never sets. That was the case last night as the fun DID NOT set. Campers spent all rest period loading up water balloons, and at about 8:30pm campers ascended upon the front yard as a cloud of shaving creme and flour, mixed with a little chocolate syrup and water, exploded over Camp Huawni. Check out our pictures below…it was fun..fun…fun…fun…fun!

We also had a little chocolate syrup on hand last night.

This is the result of a good shaving creme fight!

Hi mom!
