Dear Future Camp Moms & Dads,

I’m so glad Travis trusted me to visit with prospective families about camp. First I must say that we picked Camp Huawni because we think that the Huawni Family are wonderful people. We had a casual relationship with them but had many connections and just felt that the family atmosphere at Camp Huawni was right where we wanted our kids to be. Multiple generations are involved and present every day at camp. You can’t find a better bunch of folks.

Personally, another big part of my decision to send my kids to Camp Huawni (and overnight summer camp) is the “back to basics” approach that they take. I love that my kids to go camp and make friends there instead of taking their entire group of friends to camp. I love the no frills experience. I really want my kids to go to camp to experience camp and want it to feel like a completely different place than home. They get this at Camp Huawni while having loads of fun and making tons of memories. They love the predictability of camp – Miss Huawni Pageant, Celebration, Fishing at Huawni Pond, swimming pool, tribal competitions and hike/mud fight. The list is long and fun!

My oldest daughter thrives at camp. She gains independence, finds herself hanging out with friends and being free of technology. – Mary Annelle (Huawni Mom)

I have four children that will attend Camp Huawni this summer:
Sarah, age 7, first summer
Andrew, age 9, third summer
Meredith, age 11, third summer
Lauren, age 14, seventh summer

Andrew says these are a few of his favorite things about camp:

  • Play Day
  • Critter Pond
  • Sleeping in a cabin
  • canoeing
  • Really good food
  • Hanging out with friends and doing things like dodgeball
  • Loves the nice counselors
  • TALENT SHOW!!

Once before my oldest went to overnight summer camp, we met a family halfway and had ice cream. It calmed nerves and made everyone feel more comfortable having a familiar face the first day of camp.

My oldest daughter thrives at camp. She gains independence, finds herself hanging out with friends and being free of technology. She texts her friends all year long and they make plans and look forward to being together over the summer. Meredith said that she thought the two week session was so much more fun than the one week and “went much faster.” She gets to try things that are outside of her comfort zone which is a big deal for her.

I think I could continue but hope this has given you somethings to think about. Once before my oldest went to overnight summer camp, we met a family halfway and had ice cream. It calmed nerves and made everyone feel more comfortable having a familiar face the first day of camp. The Huawni team is willing to connect you to other families…just let them know!

Sincerely,
Mary Annelle (Fort Worth, TX)
