Busy, Busy, Busy

Camp is over, school is up and going and the days of being a taxi service are in full swing. With all the things that start up for 9 months of the year, there are simply not enough hours in the day to get it all done. If we could only slow down time. As the days come at us more quickly, the chaos reminds me to tap the breaks.
With 3 kids of my own, there is so much buying for my time. Between work, school, sporting events, hobbies, relationships, and community commitments, I’m trying to catch my breath on the hamster wheel. All of these things are important, and yet to prioritize my greatest treasure on earth – my family – is the tricky part, because it doesn’t come with a deadline or a hard and fast schedule. Sometimes I think about what times must have been like when there was a was no internet… no TV… and no video games…(To quote my good friend Buddy the Elf “that’s SHOCKING!”) It’s hard to imagine. Yet, something about that draws me…
I have found that the more screen time my kiddos have, and the more time I don’t intentionally spend talking, throwing the ball, playing games, or just spending time with them the more their attitudes go South. I want to pose a challenge for all of us. We are great at planning for our weekly schedules. Games, practices’, business meetings or making sure we are at home to watch our favorite teams play, but what if we did the same thing planning time to be with our families?
The simple joys of eating ice cold watermelon, playing in a cool creek, floating on a canoe in the lake, fishing with a cane pole, and singing some Camp classics at Sing Song will be treasured for years to come.
At Camp Huawni, our Sessions are designed to slow down and make the most of our time with campers. We eliminate the distractions of the world and at Summer camp in East Texas we utilize the piney woods to shade the outdoor fun. The simple joys of eating ice cold watermelon, playing in a cool creek, floating on a canoe in the lake, fishing with a cane pole, and singing some Camp classics at Sing Song will be treasured for years to come. We slow things down so that our Staff are able to spend time, have meaningful conversations with your kids and take the time to “LTK” (Love the Kids). That’s the essence of our overnight Camp and what we aim to create with each meal time, morning/evening activities and purposeful unstructured time after Dinner.
So, as parents striving to model a meaningful life for our children, let’s slow down, plan, and make each moment count. It doesn’t always have to be something extraordinary. Sometimes the simple things make the most impact.
Come join us this Summer!
