I have been extra encouraged today as our parents have been receiving in the mail their mid-session letters. Mid-session letters are one small piece to the puzzle of how we hope to be a legacy of youth development. Here’s the quick backstory to mid-session letters and why they mean so much.
A few years ago at a Camp Party in Forth Worth at the Mayfield home Cristy Cox Mayfield showed us her mid-session letters as a camper back from the 80’s. Until this moment, I didn’t even know mid-session letters existed. Back then, directors and counselors would send parents an update midway through the session about how their children were doing at Camp. This sparked the idea to bring them back, and for the last few years we’ve continued this tradition. In fact, we copied the original template and tried our best to keep them as identical as possible.
So yesterday parents started to receive these letters, and I personally started getting multiple emails of encouragement. Parents were overjoyed to hear about special moments their children were experiencing and how their child’s counselors were seeing them grow up right in the middle of the session. Again, this is just a glimpse of how real youth development is happening at Huawni.
With permission, I wanted to share this mid-session letter that was sent to my good friends Micah and Kelly. I hoped you’re encouraged, and even more so if you got a letter regarding your own camper!
If your camper is currently at camp and didn’t get a letter, please shoot us an email to lauren(at)camphuawni.com. Sometimes these letters get lost in the mail. We can resend you one if need be!
What did your camper’s counselor say about your child?
