Sleepaway camp high ropes net.jpg?ixlib=rails 2.1

A full slate of activities were on tap today as our Session 5 sleepaway campers got their first taste of the Huawni Schedule. Campers enjoyed Huawni Pond (kayaking, peddle boats, paddle boarding, and canoeing), Critter, Trolley, Slide, Swim, Archery, Yard Games, Bikes and High Ropes. The first day of activities can be a bit nerve racking. For instance, climbing 35 feet up to the high ropes can be a daunting feeling, especially for an 8 year old. Likewise, jumping of the Critter for the first time or gliding down the Trolley can be equally paralyzing. BUT…it’s truly inspiring to see our campers take these small steps of faith and go for it. It happened all day long today…you would be so proud of your campers!

The Giant Swing brought some smiles today at the High Ropes Course.

Critter was a favorite today…as always.

Ready, set, Critter!

Huawni Volleyball!

The Riviera (aka the Pool) was the place to be today.

Watermelon at Break

Today we threw in a little wrinkle at break (we usually just serve Gatorade) as we sliced open some ice-cold Huawni Dinosaur Eggs. We filled campers’ water bottles up with ice-cold water as well…it was the perfect antidote to the warm weather. Campers were staying hydrated, and the watermelon was a nice touch!

Fishing

After supper we headed over to Huawni Pond to enjoy a night of cane-pole fishing. Although we had a hot day, tonight was very pleasant as we had a strong north wind blowing all night. Before we dropped the lines in the water, we made sure and snapped a cabin and individual pic…you’ll get these on closing day. We upgraded our pictures this year…we hope you like them! And then the fishing began, and did it. Listen to our KWNI Sing Song Podcast below and hear who caught a fish. Congrats as well to John Hayden who caught the big fish of the night, a 5 lb. catfish!

John Hayden pulled in this whopper!

First Sing Song of the Session

Tonight we hosted the first Sing Song of the session. Listen to our almost live KWNI Huawni Radio recording of the Sing Song here. I also took a moment tonight during the Sing Song to tell the story of Asia Jones. This has been a long-standing tradition at Fishing Night, so it was great getting to slip it in. Enjoy the recording!

Campers got to practice their echo tonight at Sing Song.

Tuesday’s Schedule

One cool thing about sleepaway camp here at Huawni is that no day is the same. Tomorrow, we’ll have another full slate of activities and tomorrow night we will celebrate our campers with the famous, famous, TALENT SHOW!! We will be encouraging your kiddos to get on that stage and give it their best. We can’t wait to celebrate them….we will keep you posted!
