Tonight at Sing Song, our last of the summer, we will sing Summer next to last on the line up. This notorious Sing Song request, written by my Dad, has a great line in it:
How days looked to are now the past, and how good it is that memories last in the summer.
What an appropriate line for today. Summer camp is wrapping up, and our Session 5 Campers are soaking up the last drops of fun and memories here at Camp. Last night’s Celebration & Movie Night surprise set the pace for one final day here at Huawni.
This morning campers got the last ounce of fun out of activities and this afternoon campers celebrated the session with Critter Pond Mixer. We had the Critter, Slide, and Trolley rocking along with background music. Counselors entered and competed in the famous, famous, MOST FAMOUS Huawni Staff Football for Distance competition. Billy also surprised Camp with a very timely snack….some ice-cold Huawni Dinosaur Eggs. We are getting ready tonight for Initiation, where we will initiate 58 Huawni Campers into the Tribe.
I’ve learned to enjoy more and more the little things that happen day to day at Huawni. This is probably due to the fact that I don’t do as much as I used to. It’s nice, as I really do get to be more present and take in the simplicities of Camp and what it means to kids. Today, a few things struck me as really, really neat. I witnessed two of our campers holding hands walking to the pool and singing a song they made up called Last Activity as a Camper. They were commemorating, literally, their last scheduled activity as a camper. What a sweet moment…and what a way to celebrate their last scheduled activity. Another neat moment, which happened a couple of times, was hearing from campers and how they were wanting for Camp to last longer. It was another reassuring moment that was a stamp on a really great session.
Parents, we are excited to celebrate the session with you tomorrow at Closing Day. Gates will open at 9am and we will start Closing Ceremonies in the Dining Hall at 10:30am. We are excited to see you!
Parents, what are you going to miss??
