Terrific Tuesday
Today at Camp was truly encouraging in so many facets. Campers hit the ground running today with a full schedule of activities. The fact that we topped out at 96 degrees and enjoyed a 10-15 mph breeze all day was an added bonus. It seemed today as if that breeze kicked Session 5 into a whole new gear. You could tell by campers’ faces that they were feeling more comfortable just being at Camp. Another really neat part of Camp happened this morning at Staff Meeting.

The Power of LTK
A long-time tradition at Huawni is our counselor staff meeting. Staff Meeting is something we do everyday here at Camp and it has a few key purposes. Number one, it’s a time for community. It’s amazing what a good cup of hot coffee and friends will do to your mood, which means everything especially at the beginning of your day. Secondly, we prepare for the day. Billy led this morning, steadily leading staff through the day’s logistics such as camper of the day nominations and Talent Show preparation. Lastly, Staff Meeting is about giving our counselors just what they need at the right time. You can imagine how hard it is, especially near the end of the summer, for counselors to muster up what energy they have left to make each child’s day the best day ever. As a summer camp for girls and boys, our counseling staff and their ability to get up everyday and give it 100% is crucial. Usually at this point in the summer, we are wanting our counselors to realize that they actually can’t do it alone and need to ask for help and lean on each other. It’s a delicate message, as we directors try and communicate both encouragement and challenge staff to be at their best. Billy did an absolute stellar job at communicating and encouraging our Huawni Staff to make today great. Here’s a few pictures and exerts that stood out.

What I’ve witnessed over the last 11 hours it what we call at Huawni hitting our stride. And to be really honest, this doesn’t happen automatically. Your Huawni counselors have absolutely risen to the occasion today. I’ve seen counselors go above and beyond today, as they have given it there all. You could see it today in how senior counselors went all out in their Inspection characters, how activities were run (i.e. counselors getting creative and getting every bit of fun until the 40th minute), and how counselors were super engaged after supper during free time. Right now, your Huawni Staff is cheering on their campers in the famous, famous, MOST FAMOUS Huawni Talent Show. Talent Show gives many of our campers, especially first year campers, a boost in confidence and self validation.
I am happy to report that your Camp Huawni counselors are truly amazing humans, and they are going above and beyond today in making sure this session is the best of the summer.
