The second full day of Camp was not one to disappoint! Today your campers spent the day hanging out at the Critter Pond, and splashing around at the Pool. A little Huawni Trivia- the Pool is also known as the Riveria! Tuesday has been a sunny but cool day- temps maxed out at 81 today. Don’t be surprised if you see pictures of your campers wearing sweaters from this morning!

Grant G. was today’s Critter King!

Lunch was a Camp favorite- corn dogs and mac & cheese. We also got to celebrate Juliet N. today for her 11th birthday! And of course, we sang the Huawni version of Happy Birthday. I’ve got the inside scoop for you, so keep it a secret- the ladies in Willow Glen plan on throwing Juliet a surprise birthday party tonight!

Maci S. & the rest of Cedar Ridge relaxed at the Pool this afternoon!

Tonight, we will leave main camp & make the trek out to the Huawni Pond. One of my favorite things about Tuesday Night Fishing is the consistency, tradition, & simplicity of the night. Who knew cane poles, s’mores, and Sing Song with your camp friends could be so much fun?!
We also will be bringing back an old Huawni tradition tonight- the famous, famous, MOST FAMOUS Girl Counselor’s canoe race! In the past few years, this tradition has been relived once or twice a summer, and we are excited to get to race out on the Huawni Pond tonight!
And of course, the night will end with a great Sing Song lead by some of our counselors!

Getting Comfortable with Uncomfortable

At this point, we’ve got almost two full days of Camp under our belts. Campers now know all their cabinmate’s names, have experienced all of Huawni’s awesome activities, & are all settled in their homes for the next two weeks. As they become more comfortable with Camp, there are going to be moments where they might be a little uncomfortable- but they’ll experience some awesome growth from it! Climbing up a 40 foot Ropes Course with a zipline as the only way to come down? Uncomfortable. But while they’re nervously holding onto their lanyard, ears filled with cheers from their cabin & counselors, they’re going to know that they can take small risks in a safe environment. Even experiences like living in an open air cabin with 11 other people that are super uncomfortable will ultimately lead to moments of growth. We’re so excited to watch your camper grow over these next two weeks!

Brooklynn B. took on the Ropes Course for the first time today!

Homesickness

I know for many of our parents, it was your first time to drop off your child at overnight camp. This is such a great opportunity for your child to grow, as emotional & nerve wracking an event it is. Just know that our counselors are doing a good job in walking with your child through this common challenge! I want to encourage you to read these two blogs our CEO Travis has written based upon the book Homesick & Happy by Michael Thompson.
