Tell us about yourself! Where are you from? What are some of your passions?
MM: I am from a very small town about an hour north of Dallas called Gunter. My family’s roots run deep in this small country town, so it was fun to continue the legacy of attending and playing sports for Gunter alongside my cousins. Growing up, my family did most things together, especially competing against each other in any way we could. Because of my childhood, sports became a passion of mine very early on. I love the aspect of team work, healthy competition, and hardwork. Nowadays, I’m very passionate about keeping up with my beloved Dallas Mavericks, watching movies (especially Marvel), and playing any kind of games with my friends.
Share your experience of working in the summer camp industry. What drew you to Camp Huawni?
MM: Camp has probably made the biggest impact in my life. I have worked in the camp industry for four years now, and it has been my favorite job. As a camper and summer staffer, camp has been the place for some of my favorite memories and where I grew the most as a person. Camp is where I have always felt known, cared for and most like myself. Meaningful relationships and true significance are very important to me, which is why I wanted to come to Camp Huawni. I want every camper and staffer to feel loved and known, and I think Camp Huawni displays the importance of this!
What does your role as Camp Huawni’s Women’s Director look like?
MM: As Women’s Director, my job will be to oversee the girl’s side of camp from campers to staffers. I desire for every girl who comes through our gates to enjoy camp and walk away knowing themself better. My job will be mostly relationship building, which is probably my favorite part. I’ll also be making sure camp is running smoothly and helping in anyway I can around camp during the summer!
What are you most looking forward to this upcoming camp season?
MM: I am so excited to see and learn all of the Huawni ways and traditions. I also really love the programatic side of camp and getting to put together a program that is fun and memorable for both campers and staff. I think Huawni is a special place, so I cannot wait to experience it firsthand this summer!
