Huawni's Got Talent
One of the great and hidden things about summer camp is the opportunity for kids to grow their independence, learn responsbility, and build self-confidence. While being in a new and different environment, they are challenged to try to new and different things.
Yesterday, we had our first full day of activities throughout camp. From biking on camp road to swimming at the pool, campers enjoyed outdoor play in the summer sunshine. While each activity is designed to be fun, it also lets campers discover something new in themselves.
We know how scary and difficult it can be for a camper to take their first step on the high ropes course or to make their first leap off from the Critter Tower. A camper might even say, “I can’t do this” or “I’m too afraid”, and it’s perfectly normal to feel this way! Here at Camp Huawni, we teach the power of encouragement to our campers. When we know a person is struggling or going through a tough time, we want to extend grace, patience, and love towards them. By doing so, we help them realize they have the strength and courage to overcome their obstacles.
We watched many of our campers overcome their stage fright as they presented their acts during last night’s Talent Show. For many of them, it was their first time to perform in front of an entire audience. We had quite the show! There were lots of singing, dancing, and cheering. We loved seeing the camaraderie of our campers as they rooted each other on!
We continue the summer fun today with more activities as well as the beloved tradition of cane pole fishing at Huawni Pond!
