We are so happy to have our Session Two campers back! Opening Day was filled with lots of hugs and camp reunions. One of the best things about overnight camp is the lasting friendships that are made. Campers come back year after year to reunite with the friends made here, and we are so happy to foster those friendships at Camp Huawni. A third year staffer, Hannah S. said “I love opening day because I love seeing previous campers reunite with previous counselors and I love watching new campers try new things!” After campers unpacked and ate Ms. Ada’s famous fried chicken, we headed to the front lawn where we watched counselors participate in Opening Night Show! Campers were enamored by counselors as they played a game of spin that wheel. After Opening Night Show, campers headed to bed and prepared for a fun two weeks ahead.

One of our favorite traditions at Camp Huawni is Fishing on a Tuesday Night! Campers head out to H-Pond to eat worms, make s’mores, fish, and watch counselors participate in chubby bunny. Fishing always ends with the first Sing Song of the session. First year staffer Alex R. said “I enjoy fishing because the sunset is beautiful and the kids are having a great time. I also enjoy the quality time with all of camp, especially Sing Song at the end.” Sing Song is another rich tradition at Huawni. Staff lead by singing and playing guitar while everyone sings along to songs like You are my Sunshine, Wagon Wheel, and the Camp Song to name a few. Click the link to hear it for yourself!

This session is off to a great start, as we had Play Day today! Campers were met with water and “Chicken Train” as they entered the Dining Hall for breakfast this morning. Tonight, we have Messy Fight, where kids get covered in chocolate syrup, flour, and spaghetti to name a few. It has been a great start to the session!
