Staff orientation is the first fourteen days at Camp Huawni and it has been full of energy, emotion, and effort all around. While many staff members were seen seen sprinting across the lawn to reunite with their best friends as they returned to their second home, some arrived as first timers, bright eyed and a bundle of nerves, excited for their new adventure. Similarly to our campers journey here, the new staff members found a home in Camp Huawni quickly.
Following the Huawni tradition, staff members were sorted into the Tejas and Caddo tribes and competed in games of kickball, hot shot, and the Huawni derby. 4th year staffer Miguel even scored a soccer goal using only his shoulder! Our college crew displayed healthy competition and promoted tribal pride as they built real friendships with each other.
To prepare for our campers arrival, staffers trained enthusiastically in ropes certification, lifeguarding, and all of our summer activities. The team cleaned and organized our facilities and even rehearsed the camp schedule.
Parents, campers, and staff members: The truth is- Everyone gets a little nervous about being away from home around a new group of people. But, after stepping onto Camp Huawni’s property, we’ll all be right back at home.
If the first fourteen days are any indication- this summer is going to be one for the books.
We can’t wait to see you.
