Sunday at Huawni may be one on my favorite days at Camp. I really think it’s because it’s so simple and restful. We start off resting by sleeping in; we didn’t have breakfast until 9am.

At 10am we headed just up the road to the Little Red Church for our traditional Sunday service. The Little Red Church is a peaceful place and also has a lot of history behind it in the Adams family. My great grandparents, Papa Ben and Big Mama, donated the land years ago in order to build a church building. Now, the only services held there throughout the year are Camp’s Sunday services, our SOJs (spiritual orange juice devotionals), and one big family reunion. The Little Red Church is one of the most peaceful spots I know of, and it’s also the very spot I asked Mandi, my wife of eight months, to marry me.

This morning’s service was special. Mr. Mike led campers in Swing Low, Father I Adore You, and He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands. Next Ashley, Erin, and myself played a You’re Beautiful and 10,000 Reasons (bless the Lord) few more worship songs before Austin, my brother, shared the main message.

Austin shared the message for older campers, and read from Galatians 1:11-13 , where Paul describes his radical life change. Ashley Klein shared a message with younger campers, reading for Jesus Story Book.

After church we ate bbq sandwichs, the traditional Sunday lunch, and headed back to the cabins for some more “R&R”.

Sunday Hike
On Sunday afternoons of our two-week sessions, campers get to pick their activity. Choices today included all water activities, a movie, and the famous, famous, MOST FAMOUS Sunday Hike.

Mr. Mike led the hike today, was we trekked to a never before seen location east of main campus. We counted the different varieties of trees, animals, and special plants we encountered. We found the sassafras plant (which can be used to brew tea), touch me knots (their leaves close when you touch them), and dart devils (that stick to you like a dart when you throw them). Their was a cool breeze as well, which was an extra blessing. We finished the hike with ice cold watermelon, and it was sliced by experts, and former directors, Robb Payne and Matt Gregory. Thank you Matt and Robb and both families for joining us today!

Woofleball World Series
We are just about to kick off Round 1 of the Woofleball World Series (WWS). Yes…we spell it funny…“woofleball”. It’s one of those weird camp traditions! Tejas is looking to get a “w” on the board after a tough 1-0 loss in soccer. After WWS, campers will begin marching on the Front Yard for the much anticipated Waterballoon War under the lights.
