Staff Training
Great camps are built by great people. Our hiring process is thorough and intentional. Every potential staff member undergoes a comprehensive background check, provides multiple references, and completes an in-depth interview process. We look for counselors who are mature, responsible, passionate about working with children, and aligned with our mission to help every camper know and be known. Many of our staff are former campers who understand Camp Huawni’s culture and values from the inside. We don’t hire anyone we wouldn’t trust with our own children—because many of us have sent our own children to camp with these very counselors.
Every member of our team arrives at Camp Huawni understanding that life is meaningful relationships—and those relationships start with preparation. Before the first camper arrives, our staff complete a 13-day intensive orientation covering everything from emergency procedures to how we create an environment where every child can know and be known. We train our counselors to embrace our belief that we are made to play outdoors safely, to honor the rich tradition that makes Camp Huawni special, and to protect the second home feeling that keeps families coming back generation after generation. Well-trained staff don’t just supervise—they create a safe, joyful space where simple fun can happen freely.
