Health & Medical Care

Your child’s health is in excellent hands. Camp Huawni maintains a fully-equipped medical station staffed by a Registered Nurse (RN) throughout all camp operations, supported by at least one Nurse Extern. Our medical team operates under the guidance of Dr. Eddy Furniss, our on-call Medical Director, who provides consultation and oversight for any significant health concerns. We follow detailed medical protocols (updated regularly) for everything from minor scrapes to serious emergencies. Our nurses maintain all camper health records, administer medications as prescribed, monitor chronic conditions, and communicate with parents about any health concerns. We’re prepared for emergencies, but our goal is prevention—keeping campers healthy through proper supervision, hydration, sun safety, and attentive care.

Lifeguard Certification & Water Safety

We are made to play outdoors—and at Camp Huawni, that includes swimming, kayaking, and waterfront activities that create some of summer’s best memories. But outdoor play requires serious safety protocols. Every lifeguard on our team is trained on-site by American Red Cross trainers and receives their American Red Cross certification and participates in weekly in-service training throughout the summer. Our waterfront staff maintain the vigilant oversight that allows simple fun to happen safely. With multiple certified lifeguards on duty, check-in and check-out systems, and thorough swim testing, we ensure the lake and pool remain places of joy, not risk. When campers splash, laugh, and challenge themselves at the waterfront, they’re protected by professionals who understand that great memories require great safety.

Ropes Course Safety

Simple fun is the most fun—but simple doesn’t mean careless. Our ropes course and climbing activities combine the adventure of outdoor challenge with meticulous safety standards. Every year before camp begins, our ropes course is professionally inspected by Adventure Experiences to ensure all equipment meets industry safety standards. Our staff are also trained annually by Adventure Experiences on-site at camp, learning proper belay techniques, equipment inspection, harnessing procedures, and emergency protocols before any campers arrive. During activities, our trained facilitators conduct thorough equipment checks before every session and ensure every participant is properly fitted and secured. We believe we are made to play outdoors and that outdoor adventure builds confidence and character—but only when it’s done right. Our rich tradition of challenge activities has taught us that the best moments happen when campers feel secure enough to stretch themselves. That security comes from professional inspection, expert training, and vigilant staff who know that protecting our campers is how we preserve Camp Huawni as their second home.
