On Wednesday, all of camp gathered for Tribal Competition team day. The entire day was made up of 8 team events: Soccer Kick Around the Pool, Hot Shot, OC Team Run, Innertube Relay, Huawni Derby, Run For The Roses, Archery Tournament, and Tug O War. This is a big day for team points, and with Caddo winning the Wiffleball World Series and Tejas winning Soccer, both teams entered the day neck and neck.

Caddo got off to a quick start winning both Soccer Kick Around The Pool and Hot Shot. Soccer Kick is a soccer kick relay race up and down Flagpole Hill, with counselors finishing it by actually kicking the ball around the pool. Hot Shot is a team basketball shoot, where every camper gets one shot; the team with the most points wins.

Tejas came back with a stunning victory in the OC (Obstacle Course) Team Run in what was the closest OC Team run in Huawni’s 50 year history. It was truly breath taking. Caddo went first and finished with a time of 14:57:10. With two bridge penalties, counting an additional 3 seconds each, Caddo finished with a respectable time of 15:04:10. Tejas ran second, and what happened next was unbelievable. As Tejas neared the fourteen minute mark, they only had a few team members left to cross the rope swing. When they got to their next to last rope swing, they missed several times trying to get the rope swung back over to the platform. Finally, they did it. As their last team member, Caleb Shannon, crossed over the barrier, their time stopped at 14:55:09. But, Tejas has three penalties. Once we added 9 seconds to their time, they finished at 15:04:09, just 1 hundredth of a second ahead of the Caddo!.

In the afternoon, Caddo took Innertube Relay, and Tejas won both the Huawni Derby and Run for the Roses. In Run for the Roses, Caddo came storming back in the last few legs, but Tejas ended up winning by about 50 yards.

After supper, tribes battled it out in the Huawni Archery Tournament. Each tribe picks 5 younger and 5 older campers to represent their tribe for team points. This match was also very close, as Caddo edged out Tejas for the victory. In Tug O War, Tejas claimed a win. The competition was fierce, as both teams racked up 4 wins a piece.

It looks like Tribal Competition will all come down to who scored the most individual points, and we will announce the winner on Saturday during Closing Ceremony.

Last night we hosted Celebration, where we decorate the entire Dining Hall into a particular theme. This summer the theme is The 90’s; we played carnival games, drank coke floats, and danced, danced, danced. We also had our Last Year Camper Campout last night; I talked to them this morning and they had a great time.

We’re headed to Summer Tree this morning, which is a special time to share what’s on our hearts and remember the special time we’ve shared together these last two weeks.

I hope to catch you up soon as we enjoy our last full day together!
