Monday was another full day of activities, and then we hosted the famous, famous, MOST FAMOUS, Camp Huawni Triathlon. We started the triathlon several years ago because we wanted to bring back the same kind of hora that our one time Huawni Fun Run had. The Fun Run was a 5k race that allowed all campers to participate, but also allowed kids who wanted to compete to push themselves beyond what they thought they could do. Another aspect of the fun run was that campers cheered their friends on. So, the Huawni Triathlon was born circa 2009 I believe, and we’ve never turned back. Campers live for the triathlon, and I thought yesterday campers that didn’t participate did an excellent job encouraging their friends who were competing. I am so proud of all of our campers for finishing the race. It’s a tough race, which includes about a 100 yard swim, 2 mile bike, and a 3/4 mile run. Here’s the results from the 2015 Session 2 Huawni Triathlon.

After everyone cooled down a bit after triathlon, camp gathered for the Miss Huawni Pageant. Miss Huawni is an old-school beauty pageant with a twist. The judges, a.k.a. your Huawni Counselors, judge on based upon inner beauty. Congratulation to Miss Sarah M. for winning last night’s pageant!! The highlight of last night actually happened after the pageant. When girl campers got back to their bunks, they were surprised with notes and flowers and a special word of affirmation about the inner beauty that their counselors have noticed during the session. I’m proud of our girls’ staff for stepping up last night and being intentional about building up girls camp.
Tonight we’ll host the final round of the WWS. We have special guest umpires (former directors Matt Gregory, Caleb Homer, and Pam Adams). We also plan on commentating the final round tonight, and I’m hoping that director emeritus Chris “Papa Love” Watlington will be joining me in the booth. Tejas needs to take both games tonight, and then outscore Caddo in total runs, to win WWS. We’ll keep you posted!
Parents, what’s been your favorite photo of your child so far this session?
