Wednesday was all-day competition and boy was it close. Here’s the results of what has ended up being a back and forth competition.

| Soccer | Tejas | | Wiffleball World Series | Caddo | | Event | Tribe Winner | | Soccer Kick Around the Pool | Tejas | | Hot Shot | Caddo | | OC Team Run | Caddo | | Intertube Relay | Tejas | | Huawni Derby | Tejas | | Run for the Roses | Tejas | | Tug-O-War | Tejas | | Archery Tournament | Tejas |

Although Tejas won more team events, we still don’t know who the winner of Tribal Competition will be because we have yet to factor in individual competition points. Each camper gets to compete at an individual level at swim, horseshoes, obstacle course (OC), archery, and hot shot. Those combined points make up roughly 40% of the total points, so Caddo is very much still in the running.

Following all-day competition we indulged in snow cones and a big slip-n-slide on Flagpole Hill. This year we upgraded our slip-n-slide by using large and slicker bill boards. The snow cones were a nice compliment to a long day of competition.

Thursday at Camp

Thursday was Connect, so we allowed campers to choose their schedule and all of our water activities were open. We ended Thursday with Celebration, a carnival like event where all of camp gets to celebrate our two weeks together. Last night’s theme was North Country Fair, and we put together bounce houses, a petting zoo (counselors were the farm animals), pie eating contest, bobbing for apples, and other games. We capped off the night with a little two stepping and line dancing on the dance floor. The night was majestic and fun and it was the perfect way to celebrate this Session 2 and all the special campers we have here.

Zachary thought Celebration was a hit!

Frankenstein anyone?

Here’s one of three bounce houses campers got to enjoy last night.

Summer Tree

This morning all of camp hiked down to the archery area for summer tree. Summer Tree is about a 20 year old tradition that my father, Mike Adams, started. I don’t know if I’ve ever blogged the poem, but I thought it might give a descriptive picture of what Summer Tree is all about.

The Legend of the Summer Tree

I was birthed in the days of the Indians, So my summer number more, Than the youthful eyes who gather, ‘Neath my boughs to share their lore, I yearn to send my wisdom down, So innocence is spared, But innocence and wisdom, Together found are rare, So I’ll offer just a moment, When truth is uttered here, By those who stand beneath my limbs, And share with others dear. No false word can be spoken, As time is frozen still, To ’neath here another day, To remember, to embrace until, The hearts are made to laugh again, And say the thoughts they feel, A dream come true, a special time, No other place so real. My listening limbs do cover, These youthful souls so free, I cradle for time the friendships born, I am the Summer Tree.

True things and heart felt love was shared this morning. I got to witness brothers and sisters saying “I love you” in front of all of camp. I got to see campers affirming campers in the most unique and specific ways. I got to see the close friendships between campers and counselors. The impact of only two weeks still astounds me when I hear a 7 year old articulate the love they have for their friends. Tears were shared. As the breeze whispered through the trees, you could feel the weight of a loving family sharing things that mattered.

We will miss this group when they drive out the camp gate tomorrow. You have remarkable children!

Closing Day Details

The gate will open tomorrow at 9am and we’ll load up your luggage between 9am and 9:45am. Closing Ceremonies starts at 10am. Please be patient as you’re in your car— this year we will actually have your child’s luggage ready to go and we will load it in your car for you as you drive up, before you get out of the car. So, it’s worth the wait. Once you get out, you may go to the Dining Hall and check out. Your camper will meet you at the Dining Hall at 10am, at which time we’ll start closing ceremonies. You should be on your way home by 11am!
