A big part of Camp is Sing Song. Sing Song has been around for a long time and is maybe one of the most communal gatherings here at Camp. Every few nights all of camp gathers around the campfire or pool and sings songs together. Some of them are really old school, like Bobby McGee, and some are newer, like Brothers, written and performed by Penny and Sparrow.

This summer we have been recording a handful of Sing Songs. After we released the first one, it was evident that our parents loved hearing it. It really gives you an inside view of what it’s like to be here at Camp in the thick of things. So, due to popular demand, here’s another recording from Saturday Night Sing Song at the pool.

Camp Update

Last night we hosted the 52nd Annual Miss Huawni Pageant. We are proud to announce that Vivi M., also Miss Tejas, was crowned Miss Huawni! We are so very proud of all our contestants. Miss Huawni is truly a time to celebrate the inner beauty of Girls Camp. I think we got to do that last night.

This morning we woke the kids up with to a Huawni 4th of July favorite, Born in the U.S.A.. At Flag Raising campers sung Happy Birthday to America, we raised old glory, and we honored all our current and veteran military servicemen and women with a moment of silence. This morning is campers’ last chance to compete in individual Tribal Competition. The top 3 places of IC Events (long and short swim, OC run, archery, hot shot, mountain bikes) will gain points for their team.

Tonight we will have a grand cookout at Huawni Pond featuring a face painting booth. We’ll open up HP for kayaking and paddle boarding, do a counselor rescue and canoe race, and blast TNT fireworks as soon as it gets darks. I would like to again thank the Trout Family for donating our TNT Fireworks. The Trout Family has donated our fireworks for years and it’s been a huge blessing to the kids!

Happy 4th of July to all our Huawni Families! We will do all we can to make your child’s 4th one for the books tonight here at Huawni.
