Not much has changed about fishing on a Tuesday night at Huawni, including the fact that we use cane poles to do it. One thing that has changed is the size of our fish!! Last night that was very evident as our fish have had another year to grow up in Huawni Pond. Check out these catches!!
In addition to fishing last night, campers got to canoe, kayak, and also peddle boat (new activity) around Huawni Pond as our campers enjoyed beautiful evening. Campers munched on s’mores, and our counselors competed in a long-standing tradition…our Counselor Chubby Bunny contest! We finished up the evening with a Sing Song on the trailer and hiked back to Camp to get cleaned up.
This morning campers enjoyed regularly scheduled activities as week one of Session 2 is moving right along! Also, a quick update. The Playday Phantom has not struck yet. Be on the lookout to see if/when that happens this week!
Another big tradition that our staff really enjoy is Staff Meeting. Each morning our counselors (except for those watching Boys and Girls Camp!) gather in the Main Cabin Staff Room to spend time together and prep for the day. Had you joined us this week, you would have experienced a few really cool moments. One of my favorites on Tuesday morning was watching our counselors vouch for campers for Camper of the Day. Each staff meeting counselors vote on one camper who models what it means to be an outstanding camper. Tuesday there were testimonials of campers helping to clean up after supper (serving), empathizing and encouraging their siblings and bunk mates (care), taking on more responsibility with cabin clean up (responsibility), and affirming their friends (encouragement). At lunch we announce the camper of the day, and they get a large brass Camper of the Day medal to keep! Congrats to Tyley S. for winning it on Tuesday!
Only a few of our campers are dealing with mild homesick cases. Our counselors and staff have done a fantastic job of walking alongside these kiddos as they meet this common challenge. There are no major cases…so proud of these campers!
