It’s Friday at Camp Huawni, and this means one thing….the turn! I remember my days on the Huawni Staff where Rob and Chris (my directors as a counselor) would sit and staff meeting, point their arms to the left, and simultaneously say, “The turn!”. So what is the turn?
Well, the turn is a phrase used at Camp that really means momentum. It’s a different kind of momentum though- more of a slowing down and enjoying/being present. Friday is the beginning of where a two-week session gets really special. Part of it due to how the schedule is set up (today is individual competition at some daily activities and team soccer is tonight) and part of it is due to the fact that your kiddos have begun to form some pretty special friendships, both with their cabin mates and their counselors. With Skit Night and Talent Show checked off the list, campers are really feeling comfortable and known at this point in the session.
Tonight, as I mentioned, Caddo and Tejas will compete in Soccer. This will be the first team event of the session and campers and counselors will be amped up. Not only will campers get to cheer for their team, but our coaches will be encouraging them to lift up the other team and practice good sportsmanship. We will do our best to keep everyone posted on Social Media this evening! As the weekend continues, we have some very fun things planned. Saturday afternoon we’ll go on the famous, famous, MOST FAMOUS, Hike to the Carving Trees. This is one of my personal top 3 special events at Camp. We hike about a 1/2 mile down the Camp Road to a really picturesque draw in the Pinson Creek. We’ll enjoy a traditional Huawni Mud Fight along with iced down watermelon! After getting cleaned up, we will have our Cookout, Storytelling & Truckride/Wild Woman Hunt. We’ll finish up Saturday with our 3rd Sing Song of the Session. Sunday is truly a day of rest as we’ll get to experience the Little Red Church Service, and Sunday afternoon campers will get to pick their activities, including water activities, Sunday Hike, or movie.
If your child just was inducted onto a Tribe last evening, be sure and order them gear online here. Select the “pick up” option and we’ll deliver it to them before tonight’s soccer match.
We’ve had two Sing Songs this week. Don’t know what Sing Song is? Well, here’a a recording from our Monday Night Sing Song. Hope you enjoy it. Our Session 2 Campers are vying for 1st Place for best session Sing Songers!
