Sunday at Huawni was nothing short of bliss. After Little Red Church campers got some down time at Rest Period and then geared up for afternoon Choice.
One the more popular and vintage choice experiences is Sunday Hike. Yesterday’s hike was to the Jo Shields barn. Campers hiked from Flagpole Hill, down to the OC over the foot bridge, and turned west towards what used to be the Pinson Property. Overall it was about a 2.5 mile hike. On the way, campers got to pet my Uncle Don’s horses at the Red House and munched on some ice-cold Huawni Watermelon. It’s nice to know that so much of Camp never changes, like the Sunday Hike! Again, campers LOVE consistency, and this hike continues to be a favorite for campers even in 2018.
Competition has been a main thread throughout Huawni History. Kids come to Huawni who have never enjoyed or experienced competition, and they leave here loving it. During Tribal Competition, we try and teach giving it your all, being a good sport and telling the winner great job, learning how to lose well, and learning from the outcome be it victory or defeat. One of the most enjoyable moments for me and Camp in general is seeing that one moment when victory is had. The bliss on camper’s faces is immeasurable, and our photographer Ashley caught one of these moments on film just this past week. This picture speaks more words than I can ever blog about….may it speak for itself!
After last night’s shaving creme and water balloon fight, you can tell that the energy here at Camp is building as we jump into week 2. We had a short rain show this afternoon but it didn’t hold up our famous, famous, MOST FAMOUS Huawni Triathlon. I’m so proud of our campers— I’ll do my best to post finishing times later tonight or in the morning with pictures. Tonight we have Miss Huawni, as we’ll be lifting up the inner beauty of Girls Camp.
I want to say kudos to all our parents who have given us feedback during this session. It has definitely made us better!! We really do value direct feedback. We are not perfect and we want to know where we can do better. Two examples of that include fixing our ropes course age requirement and improving our CampMinder Photo uploads. If you have any concerns PLEASE call our main line (936-254-3223) and let us know how we can better serve you parents while your child is in session. And thank you (you know who you are!) for sharing your insight from home!
If your child is in the Tejas Victory photo…what is their face telling you??
