Slide at summer camp 1 2.jpg?ixlib=rails 2.1

Day 2 at Camp has been full of more Huawni Activities. There’s something about going to a Huawni water activity where you can just participate, over and over, without a care in the world. Today we got a chance to hang out at our Giant Water Slide at the Critter Pond with some campers. We wanted to get an up close and personal look at all the fun that was happening there…and we’ve got some cool pictures to go with it.

Here’s the drop!

Another drop!!

So what were our campers thinking today as they slid down the slide? Here’s some direct quotes!

“I had fun at the slide because it’s kinda like a water slide but longer and you go fast and fall in the water” – Jade

“The Slide was really fun because you feel like your falling then you catch the current of the slide and then you drop.” – Audrey M.

“I love the slide because it is fast, crazy & really fun to play on!” – Gabriella

“I like the slide because it’s really fast, fun & has a BIG drop at the end!” – Elliot T.

“I love it because it is super long & fast. There is also cool water that is nice and that it is so big!” – Lilian S.

“I had fun at the slide because it makes you go down really fast & you make a huge splash!” – Ashby L.

“I love the slide because when you go down it’s really fast and the bar helps you gain speed” – Holly P

“I had fun at the slide because when you went down it got faster, and faster and when you least expect it you fall in the water, it’s so fun!” – Lindsey B.

“I love the slide because it is so fast and when you get to the end you drop and you get splashed” – Sarah H.

The speed and the drop into the Critter Pond seem to be the rush that all our campers love.

Eyes closed is a common way to go down the slide!

Simple Fun

Why do we believe that simple fun really is the most fun? Well, the slide is a great example. You won’t find Six Flags at Camp Huawni (I love Six Flags by the way). What you will find is simple outdoor activities that create environments for relationships to happen. We don’t always need the latest and greatest ride or toy. What we have come to learn is that kids love simple fun, and when it happens it sparks conversation, laughter, and sometimes just those moments when no words are said but a memory is captured. That could include, sitting on the deck with a friend after doing the slide a thousand times, being covered with mud and hiking back to Camp with a best friend, or just lying in your bunk after lights out laughing with a friend about the day. Simple fun really is the most fun, and it’s happening here at Camp today!

Photo Update

Again, thank you parents for being patient with our photo upload process. We have been on the phone with our Internet folks again today (multiple times) and are doing the best we possibly can. Again, we’ll at a minimum try and upload photos daily by 7pm. The benefit to being remote is experiencing nature and being unplugged. The downside is uploading photos and Internet speed!! What did parents ever do in the 80’s?? We are here to serve you…if you need anything or have feedback, please call our main phone line at Camp and relay anything you need to Lauren (our Family Liaison).

Up Next

Tonight Campers will be headed over to Huawni Pond for some cane pole fishing, s’mores, and a Sing Song. We’re hoping to get some good and big catch pictures as our fish are getting much bigger over at Huawni Pond. Tonight is like a big family s’more picnic! We will also be taking individual and cabin photos tonight that campers will get to take home with them in their Closing Day packets. Cabin pictures have long been a keep sake, as campers can look back over the years and remember who they got to be with in their years at Huawni. Tonight will be history in the making!
