This morning, Wednesday June 12, started like every other morning. Campers waking up to go to Flag Raising, Special Music, then… Chicken Train was on blaring from the speakers, campers were running from counselors trying to throw them in the pool, and Play Day had begun!

Cate M. was one of the first to go in the Pool this morning!

After being dunked in the pool, campers made their way to the Dining Hall for some kolaches, eggs, and fruit. A great meal to start a great day! Being Play Day and Uprising, Girl’s Camp was broken up into 4 teams:

  1. The Spicy Jalapeños (green team)
  2. Grape Jelly (purple team)
  3. The Golden Bananas (yellow team)
  4. The Pink Starbursts (pink team)

Battle lines were drawn when Boy’s camp split into 2 teams:

  1. Mean Green Lean Machine (green team)
  2. The Oreo’s (black team)

At Play Day, girls lined up on the Front Lawn for the Egg Toss. After Grape Jelly was the last one with an unbroken egg, Pie in the Eye began. Then, we dug in the Huawni Play Day archives and brought back an old Camp tradition – the Bat Relay! Immediately following the Bat Relay, Girl’s Camp went over to Flag Pole Hill for Ice Water on a Counselor’s Back. At Uprising, the battle crept on all morning. Strategies were made, pinecones were flying, and boys were running through the woods to find their flags. Both the Oreo’s and Mean Green Lean Machine fought hard for their teams, and to signal the end of the epic challenge, all the boys enjoyed ice cold watermelon together!

Liam P. and Richard P. strategizing at Uprising!

In between singing River D. Happy Birthday and everyone enjoying tacos, rice, and beans, the winners were announced over the microphone. In the end, it was a 2-2 tie for the Oreo’s and the Mean Green Lean Machine. After a quick Farkle to break the tie, the Oreo’s took the Session 2 2019 Uprising win! For girls, the Golden Bananas came in 4th place, the Spicy Jalapeños took 3rd, the Pink Starbursts were runner up, and Grape Jelly was your Session 2 2019 Play Day champions!

Hannah M. is all smiles for afternoon activities!

In the afternoon, Camp was back to usual with all cabins at activities. Field Sports, Ropes, Trolley, Critter, Volleyball, Frisbee Golf, Bikes, High Ropes, Slide, Archery, and Zulu were all in full swing! Cedar Flats and Cedar Ridge were enjoying water craft at Huawni Pond, Bandaid and Cane Brake were spotted at the Critter Pond, and Berry Patch East and Berry Patch West were sending arrows flying at Archery! After an afternoon of fun with cabins, everyone went to the Dining Hall for chicken spaghetti, green beans, and garlic bread. With full bellies, everyone went out to the Front Lawn to hang out and play until Skit Night!

Skit Night is a great time at Camp because it teaches campers how to comprise and work together with their cabins. Not only that, but it is a time for everyone to laugh, and for all of Camp to come together to cheer everyone on and encourage them!
