Here at Camp Huawni, we love creating a fun and safe environment where kids get to unplug from technology, embrace the great outdoors, and build longlasting friendships along the way. Campers not only have an outlet to play their familiar and favorite games, but also a place for them to try new things like climbing the high ropes course, running the OC, or biking through dirt road trails.

Trying something new can be intimidating, scary, and difficult. We may even become doubtful of ourselves and our abilities.

We know some of our campers may feel this way when trying new things, and it’s totally okay if they do! We have found that during moments like these, there is a special opportunity for us to show love, patience and encouragement.

Yesterday at the Critter Pond, counselors and campers cheered each other on as they took turns leaping from the tower onto the Critter, going down the Giant Slide, and ziplining down the Trolley. While these are just a few of our campers’ most favorite activities, they can seem scary when done for the very first time. How heartwarming and impactful it is when campers shout to each other, “You can do it!” or “I believe in you!” The camper that was once afraid to take that first step is now sprinting a mile!

That’s part of the famous Huawni Magic - people building other people up. It is when others see the potential in you that you can learn to see the potential in yourself. We strive to be a place where campers can feel known and confident for who they are so they may recognize their own strengths and talents.

We use Talent Show as a wonderful platform for campers to show their giftings and to be encouraged by others. Last night, Talent Show had everyone on their feet and cheering for all of the amazing performances, including singing, gynmastics, magic tricks, puppetry, palm reading, milk chugging, shark boxing, and drawing a perfect circle. It takes courage to take the stage and perform in front of an entire audience. We are so proud of all of our campers!

More fun is coming this week!
