This past Sunday marked the first day of camp as families made their way down camp road and through the gate for Session One! Our staff could not be more excited that campers are finally here to play and enjoy all the Piney Woods have to offer. Seeing both new and old friends had to be the highlight of the day!
Shortly after all the campers unpacked, readied their bunks, and said bye to their parents for the week, all of the camp made their way to the Dining Hall for dinner. Those who know anything about Camp Huawni know that opening day would not be opening day without having Mrs. Ada’s Famous Fried Chicken!
After dinner, campers gathered on Flagpole Hill to watch Opening Night Show. Counselors participated in a gameshow style competition filled with fun tasks, like bobbing for vienna sausages in leftover green bean juice from dinner.
Campers then went to the front lawn for Capture the Flag! Counselors dressed up to participate as the Green Beans and Sausages played against the Mighty Melons. Ultimately, the Mighty Melons brought home the victory with a 3-1 lead.
Followed by a quick dance party, campers got ready for bed and prepared for their first full day of camp! We are so excited to finally have campers here and for the fun-filled week ahead!
