One of campers’ favorite times during the day is after supper time. For years this time has been carved out of the Huawni Schedule to give everyone at Camp downtime. The fancy word for this used these days is free play, and it’s truly one of the most important unplanned activities of the day.
Yesterday we captured some fun shots of campers doing what they do. Free play is key because it allows kids to make decisions on how they want to spend their time. In a world where everything is scheduled (school, soccer practice, after school meetings, etc.), kids need to practice reasoning and making their own decisions. Yesterday, had you been at Camp, you would have seen kids doing all sorts of things, including handstands, playing the ukulele, kicking the soccer ball, a pick up game of basketball, and just laughing and talking with friends and their counselors.
Last night we hosted the famous, famous, MOST FAMOUS Huawni Talent Show. Our Session 1 Campers did not disappoint, as we had several unique and one-of-a-kind acts. This morning Campers had regularly scheduled activities and this afternoon we’re on the Hike to the Carving Trees. We hope to post some of these pictures as soon as we get them. You’ll be sure to see lots of mud and watermelon!
Tonight we’ll get to slow down a bit and have Cookout, Storytelling, Truck Ride, and Sing Song. I’m hopeful we’ll get to enjoy a new addition to the cookout menu— corn on the cob! We’ll finish the evening with a Sing Song by the pool underneath the stars!
